Season Wrap Up

5 Nov 2017 by Bob Boyer

Sadly, we must say that our season has come to an end. But what a season it was. When we look back over the year and see what we did and all the adversity that we overcame to get to the playoffs, I honestly feel that we can be very proud of our accomplishments. Over this season, we dealt with the hottest fall, forcing adjustments to practices… even a week of indoor practices. We combined our FR/JV program for the first time with positive results and gained experienced for the Freshmen players as our JV team finished with an impressive 7-2 record.

We faced so many injuries during our last couple weeks, weeks where we needed to be great to reach the playoffs. Our boys rose above those injuries and found ways to compete with Jesuit at a high level and win our final two league games to accomplish our goal of making the playoffs! Most of all, we beat Sunset, helping our entire school community in a vindication that Beaverton is a strong, competitive and am amazing place to go to school.

We asked the seniors to “Carry The Torch”, carrying on the values of leadership that they have experienced over the past couple years as they grew to make the mantle of leadership their own. You were admirable in your efforts and commitment to keeping our Beaverton Football program vital, relevant and strong and continued our consecutive playoff run!

“What I do for myself dies with me. What I do for others lives on through eternity.”

This is a quote that we have talked about all season. Its what we ask of our players, giving to each other, committing to each other and expecting only the same from their teammates. I am going to miss not being on the practice field with this group in the coming weeks. It had become a place of true enjoyment for us all.

To the seniors, take the lessons you learned in your time with us and take them forward into your next chapter and the rest of your lives. Remember… once a Beaver, always a Beaver!

To our returning players, take what you learned this season and build on it for next season. Juniors, the reigns our yours now. Lead us through the off season and into next year.

OK… so below is the plan for the next couple days for gear turn in. Once I get back to school, I will find the date that works best for the banquet and get it set up. We will also have a JV gathering soon as well.

Monday 11/5 – Please come into the locker room and grab all of your cloth gear (girdle, practice pants, jersey, game pant/jerseys) and take them home to be washed and brought back Tuesday. Also any Pink Jerseys that were borrowed need to be returned as well.

Tuesday 11/6 2:45 – Gear turn in for all players. All equipment must be turned in at this time. Also, please complete the Team Awards form.
Also clear out all stuff from your locker as what is left will be put into a bin and at the end of the week thrown out. Finally, seniors remember all gear needs to be turned in. Any missing gear will need to be found or paid for or it will prevent you from graduating!
